Protest Erupts On Sharda University Campus Over BDS Student’s Suicide, Kin Allege Harassment By Prof

Students at Sharda University in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida held a protest on Saturday after a girl died by suicide, alleging harassment by a professor.
The second-year student of Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS) was found dead inside the women’s hostel on the university campus, said the police on Saturday.
The victim left a suicide note where she alleged humiliation and mental harassment by two faculty members, as per the police.
The medical student’s death sparked angst among other students at the university, who staged a protest, raising slogans against the administration of one of the top private universities in Delhi-NCR.
Brother Alleges Harassment By Professor
The victim’s brother, Akshay, said that a professor claimed that the deceased student forged signatures on her assignments and books. Due to the allegation, the girl’s father met the professor and the Head of the Department.
“My father talked to my sister yesterday morning. After this, we didn’t speak. Later, from her batchmates, we learned that teachers taunted her, saying she was an expert in forging signatures,” Akshay told ANI.
He further alleged that the faculty threatened to fail his sister and prevent her from appearing for the exams and practicals. He was pressured. So, she had to make this decision. The police did a lathi charge on us, my family members.”
The victim’s mother, Sunita, demanded justice for her daughter.
“Call CM Yogi and PM Modi. Whenever any incident happens at this university, both Yogi and Modi come. Since yesterday at 9 pm, I have been sitting here. I will not leave until I get justice,” said the mother.
“Do whatever you want — burn me alive or shut this place down. Police lathi-charged us, which is wrong… All BDS students are scared and want to go to their houses,” she added.
