38 Seats In Manipur Vote In First Phase Today: 10 Facts
Guwahati: Polling began today in the troubled northeastern state of Manipur, where the BJP-led alliance is hoping for a second term in power in a multi-cornered contest. Thirty-eight of the states 60 seats are voting today
The 38 seats across 5 districts have recorded an average turnout of nearly 10% till 9 am. Today’s polling covers 29 seats in Manipur’s valley districts — Imphal West, Imphal East, and Bishnupur. The rest are in the hill districts of Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Pherzawl.
Besides the BJP and the Congress, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s National People’s Party is also in the fray this time, contesting 38 seats. The National People’s Party and Naga People’s Front, which have been part of the BJP-led ruling coalition, are going solo in this election, expressing dissatisfaction with the N Biren Singh government. The Janata Dal United is contesting the elections in the state after 20 years.
