Mumbai Live News: A 49-year-old has tested positive for new Covid-19 variant Omicron in Dharavi area of Mumbai, confirmed assistant commissioner of G North ward Kiran Dighavkar.
The patient had returned from Tanzania on December 4 and tested positive for Covid-19 during the random RT-PCR test done at the airport. After genome sequencing, it was found that he was infected with the Omicron variant. He is admitted at the Seven Hills hospital, he added.
The city on Thursday reported 218 fresh Covid-19 cases and 1 death. This is the second consecutive day that the city has recorded over 200 cases. There are 1,765 active cases here currently. Among the 221 samples tested from the city, only two were identified with the Omicron variant on Thursday. The remaining tested positive for Delta variant and Delta derivatives.
